96 2.4L not starting

I got a 96 Z24 from a friend for free which he said has a blown motor from running out of oil. I went to drain the oil and like 4 to 5 quarts of oil came out of it! I am a little confused about it. He said he was driving down the highway and heard a boom(backfire maybe?) and pulled over and shut off the car himself. He then tried to start it and just got a clicking sound so since then its been sitting for about 2 years he didnt even try to fix it. I dont see how the motor is blown if he shut it down himself wouldnt it have shut itself down if it blew?

What happens when I try to start it is I hear the fuel pump turn on and I hear 1 really soft click which sounds like its coming from the throttle body area and then nothing happens. Its like if you try to start the car without pressing the clutch in nothing at all happens.

I changed the plugs and there was some oil on the plugs. How do I test to see if I can turn the pulley to see if the motor is seized? I tried it by hand but it doesnt budge what is the correct way of doing it?

Im not really sure if it is seized thats what I really would like to know. If its not seized then I think it might be the starter, alternator or possibly the fuel injectors.

Likely from sitting 2 years the battery is dead. You can try adding distilled water to the battery and letting it trickle charge for about a day and see what happens. That or you can just go out and buy a new battery and avoid the hassle.

About the boom... not sure what that could be.

if the battery and starter are good, try turning the flywheel by hand with a flywheel turning toold(free to rent at autozone, or $7) or put a wrench on one of the tc to flywheel bolts to turn it. if it threw a rod im sure there would be oil all oever the place. a valve probably smacked a piston or something. pull the valve cover and check everything out.

I tried charging the battery but that didnt help as well as tried to jump start it. I turn the key and I get all the guages that light up and I hear the fuel pump working but the starter isnt clicking or anything. Ill have to try and see if the engine is seized up or not. Ive heard of putting a socket on the crank pulley with a pry bar to try and turn the engine but the pulleys are like impossible to get to. Do I have to pull the wheel and the panel off to get to the pulley?

thats why i said use the flywheel to turn it. all autoparts stores have flywheel turning tools, they are a screw driver with an attachment arm on it to grip on the flywheel teeth and turn it. you can rent them for free or pay $7 to keep it. though if it was locked you would hear the starter make some noise at least, the bendix has to come out and try to spin. i would try and get the starter tested, im pretty sure autozone tests them.
