you dont need an LSD. if, however, you have no suspension mods you will have a very tough time of it. i suggest AT LEAST getting rear subframe spacers (if you find some for a 300ZX they will work too, same rear subframe) but those spacers tighten up the rear end a lot and help a great deal. second it is easier for me to drift actual turns instead of just going crazy in a parking lot. but the basic idea is if you arent really going into a slide go faster lol. once you are sideways you need to figure out the steering to keep you sideways. good luck and dont crash.

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

no lsd = why bother.

i suggest you download the drift bible. or buy it if you want to learn. Dont go directly into a turn. Thats a bad recomendation. And dont just go crazy in a parking lot either. you need to learn how the car feels sliding. And dont go in second gear just yet. Get first gear drifts down, then progress to 2nd gear. Just get the god damn drift bible so i can stfu. It teaches you to become the next D1 competitor!!!!! Get as much seat time as possible and as much used tires as possible. And werent you complaining about hitting a dog earlier??? Might as well get used to dings and dents and new body parts. I would suggest gettinga s13. CHEAPER to deal with.

thats bullshit it is entirely possible to drift with no lsd. in the rain i doubt it makes much of a difference at all if you have it or not and in dry pavement you just have to go faster.

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

watch the drift bible they actually tell u to start off w/ no lsd and get the basicas down w/ no lsd and once you have the basics such as a hand brake 90 turn and 180 and a few other things down then you should get a lsd. my advice is study the drift bible religiously(no pun intended) get down the basics then get a lsd and im w/ O up there practiceing in the rain as a beginner is a good thing it gives you the feel

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

no one said it wasnt possible to drift without an lsd. So i dont see the bullshit.

I just said why bother, your going to need one anyways. Might as well learn with it, than without. It will require you to change a little technique going from without to with. So thats my opinion. Might as well get used to 2 wheels hooking up as opposed to one, since you will never be using a open diff. anyways. So why learn what you will never use? But since he doesnt have one anyways, you might as well just practice it without one until you get one.

yeah the why bother part. i say bother with it and fuck around in the rain because its hella fun and the main part is the countersteering (well maybe not main part but at least a 50/50 split with throttle control)

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

yea as in your agreeing with me??

ANd yea the throttle thing is a biggie. Most people prolly mash it to the floor at first. If you let off and slowly steer the car, you will notice you have more control. Start with controlled donuts. You'll get the steering/throttle thing down.

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

stopming the gas to get sideways is good for underpowered cars like a stock ka. its best to get the basics then get lsd

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

yes but once you start "spinning" the tires, you dont have to keep the throttle mashed.

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

main thing is being able to control the weight of the car.

Stiffen the chassis before anything...

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

Teh way I always found it easy to initiate a drift is to get on the same side of the road as the apex of the turn is on and then make a very sharp swerve towards the other side. Obviously before you go off the road (duh?) cut the wheel back sharply, but not much more than you would to go around the turn or you will severely oversteer and spin out. Downshift at eh same time and punch it. You shoulc initiate a drift. Now just keep control fo the throttle and aim the front tires where you wanna go. Throttle control is key. If you begin to oversteer, let off the gas a little until the car corrects. If you begin to straighten out unintentionally, give it more gas. You can use the E brake to break loose again if necessary.

I assume no responsibility for people who get hurt using this method. It works for me, but may not for you. Good luck and keep it safe, intellegent, and not stupid. Thanks

Re: how to drift with no lsd?

this is proof that good or decent drifting can be done...with out suspension mods, or huge power mods...on a fairly basic s13...i do have ALOT of practice though...this is on open diff if no one figured that out...(not talking about the regulars around here)
