Remove/Replace Radio- 1994 Metro
Information on HOW-TO- Removing the stock radio. Need Help.
The 94 Metro Shop Manual describes removing the trim from around the radio, and removing the ashtray/cup-holder under the radio, and removing the 4 screws holding the front of the radio to the dash. All this has been done successfully. The radio can be moved up/down and left/right about 1/4 inch. But it is clearly still fastened at the back. The Shop manual indicates there is a back fastener, which can be accessed from behind and under the "left console". Just to the left of the radio is a dash panel. It appears likely that if that panel was removed, then you could see what you are doing to find the back radio fastener. Right now you put your head next to the brake and look up and behind the dash. You can't see the back of the radio that way- too much hardware and stuff in the way.
The problem is the so called "left console" appears to be integral with the entire dashboard. Do I have to remove the entire dashboard to get at the radio fastener? Is there any other way? Also, several of the tuning and control buttons on the radio have stopped working, or only work intermittently. I suspect corrosion messing up the contacts under the buttons. This is the Delco cassette/am/fm unit. I think I am ready for a modern cd unit, if I can get the old thing out. Thanks.
