Blue Smoke Accelerating

Back to Grand Sons 1993 GM with 4.6 liter V8. When he accelerates a thin vapor of blue smoke is present and I assunme valve guide seals (125,000 miles). Is this common problem with the 4.6 engine and how hard to repair?.

If it is happening on acceleration, good chance it is rings, not valve stem seals. Valve stem seals tend to leak under High vacuum situations such as decel and light throttle cruise. That said, you may want to have a shop do some more comprehensive testing to determine the cause. If it is the valve stem seals there are specific tools that make this repair possible on the car. You may have to go to ford to get them. You need a special valve spring compressor (designed for the OHC configuration) and a special little clip to keep you from overcompressing the spring and taking out your new seal! You also need compressed air in the spark plug hole to keep the valve from dropping into the engine while you have the spring and keeper off. An extra wrist about halfway up your forearm helps,also!! Overall, not a job for the faint at heart!

sounds like shes burnin oil i wouldnt worry about it id just keep addin oil and yes most of these engines ive seen burn oil at higher milage
