Spare Tire Rack Adjustment

1997 spare tire is slamming around on every bump. It latches once not twice as posted elsewhere. I can't see any adjustments but I am sure it has some in there someplace. Any experiance strenght or hope?

Re: Spare Tire Rack Adjustment

Spray WD-40 on the latch as well as the release, then try it. The trick is to not "slam" it, but to give it a good push, but move with it - if that makes sense.

Thumbs up

The WD-40 worked pretty good but I found I still had to slam it a little harder then I felt comfortable doing. This morning I unbolted the latch mechanism and place 4 flat washers (1 at each bolt) between the mount and the latch. That moved the latch about 1/16" closer and seemed to work for now. It may still bounce over the most severe bumbs but at least speed bumbs at the shopping center arn't causing it to slam.
