Emergency break frozen

ok, got my '86 Ram p/u running yesterday. (and durr, learned it doesn't have points, lol),

Anyway, it is running now and I have a NEW problem. The emergency break is stuck on. the cable and the foot pedal to the release isn't working. I can pull the latch, but the pedal doesn't move. I can, however, move the foot pedal by hand. It just doesn't release the brake.

Any idea on how I can get under the truck and releas the brake?
What am i looking for? is there a diagram somewhere around here?

Re: Emergency break frozen

If you will get under truck you can see emerg brake cable. Oh about halfway or so , you will see where the 2 rear cable join up with it. You should be able to release it there, but lets say it is in the second half. Then you will have to go to rear brakes and release cable from shoe.

I found this. couldn't get it to release. actually, the two cables were very loose at this connection and not tight enough to properly be released. Should I tighten up these connections, then try to release.
Or would this mean it isn't the emergency break, but rather the shoes possible rusted to the hub?

NOt sure what you mean by the second half?

Re: Emergency break frozen

First half is from pedal to where the 2 cables hooked up. The second half are the cables that goes to the brake shoes.

Re: Emergency break frozen

First 1/2 of cable runs from the pedal to the junction. The junction is where the single cable from the front is connected to the double cables that go to each wheel in the rear.

You could always try to lube up the cable, once you've found where it's stuck.

Check to see if it has An Arm half way in between. If it does you will have to hit it with a hammer to move it. Mine on my 83 Froze up with rush I had to take it off and R&R it but it works fine now.
