converting 340 4bbl to 340 six pack

Does anyone have experience converting the early 70's 340 4bbl to a 340 six pack? I figure the intake manifold change is fairly simple, but i was wondering how difficult it is setting up the 3 dueces? Also, I haven't located pricing on the carbs. Comments? This is a 1972 challenger.

I've never done one, but my brother did. The installation of the intake and carbs is easy -- the tough part is finding and installing all the linkage between the carbs, and synching them up. If they're not opening evenly then you'll have either performance problems or won't be getting the most out of the engine.

If I recall correctly, he said the end result wasn't worth the expense and effort.

I done a 440 with the 6 pack and although it looks nice to have 3 carb's on top it wasn't worth the trouble of adjusting the carb's. They would never stay tuned right and you can tune and get more hp from a 4 barrel nowadays. If I had to do it over again I would have just bought a M1 single plane intake from mopar and put a 850 carb shop holley on top.

If you isist on doing the conversion, check out Mopar Performance's catalog (you should be able to get one from the parts dept of your local Dodge dealer) Besides parts, they also had (got my last one a few years back) recipies for fast cars based on engine/body combos, and elapsed time you wanted to be at. I do agree with the former responses that you have gotten, a 4-bbl is more trouble-free and reliable... If you actually enjoy fiddling with the set-up often, and like the visual impact of multiple carbs (as I do!), then so be it.. hopefully this will give you a place to start! Good Luck!
