93 lumina rough running problem solved

Just to let everyone know...and thank those who offered advice...

My 93 problem turned out to be a bad coil. I had pretty much narrowed it down to one of the coil paks or the ICM. However, I had not yet decided to get a new coil and put it on each position to find out if one was bad. And, I decided to go ahead and put in the PCV valve I had bought when I replaced the plugs and wires. Someone here had told me where the valve was located (rear valve cover) since I couldn't find it easily.

Boy was that a mistake deciding to replace the PCV valve! There's no room to get the hose off the valve since it curves and goes underneath the plenum (intake). When I pried the valve out it tore the end of the hose and it was then to short to go on the new valve. And folks there's no way to replace the hose without taking the plenum off! So, after trying for hours to get the hose to just go on....I decided to take the car in to a shop and have them do the work taking the plenum off and replacing the hose. And, I figured while they were at it they could just scope the engine and find the original rough running problem.

Well they did and it was the 1/4 coil pak. Total cost for this and pulling plenum, changing hose....$333.00. And of course I got the usual service we get today. They forgot to plug the sensor plug to the airbox back in....did something that created a vacuum leak...and so forth. I saw the undone plug and plugged it back in. The vacuum leak caused the air not to blow out of the front vents. Anyway, I took it back and they traced the leak and fixed it without additonal charge since it was their fault.

But, in hindsight, I should have went ahead and went with my instincts from what I learned here and swapped out the coil pak. And, most important, I should have just left the PCV valve alone!!!!

Oh well, lesson learned and just want to thank folks here for their expert help! Happy motoring!
