little ticked off

So yesterday i went to get an estimate for a paint job on my maro, and i was showing the guy the only rust on the car which is a little surface rust by the t-tops and a little on the deck lid. The guy told me that i will most likely have to get a whole new deck lid and back glass because it has probably gotten into where the metal goes around the glass. he said for a used one would be $1200!!!! So i am pissed and i dont have that kind of money. Btw i got so sideways the other day. it was pretty cool!!

Re: little ticked off

1200 is a ripoff, check local junkyards and Ebay and car-part.com and all that, shouldnt be more than a few hundred

Re: little ticked off

So why replace the glass? That doesn't rust.
Deck lids at the junk yard are usually quite easy and cheap to find.
They bolt on to the glass - just take it to the glass shop and have them to remove the old one and reinstall the replacement lid and reseal it for you with the urethane sealers that they use when replacing a windshield.

I did this on an 86 Iroc Restoration project a few years back and it worked out great

Re: little ticked off

I did that ONCE after it rained and almost ate a guard rail. Now it doesn't come out to play even if there's high humidity let alone rain in the forecast.

Re: little ticked off

btw, you wouldn't have happened to have gone to my mechanic would you. He always says shit like that and then wants to double it after he's done. That's why the next time he opens his mouth I'm gonna bludgeon him with the steering wheel he put on crooked after hooking up the horn, and then after that the shifter he didn't put back on right that fell off while I was driving in rush hour traffic, and after that the valve cover he didn't even torque the bolts down on that kind of just came out after one turn...

Earlsfat, if I were you I would quit going to that mechanic. He sounds like a real winner...

Don't you love it when you make everyone look at you? Happens all the time. Kids love it, they hear the motor screamin and it's like they're at a an event.

Re: little ticked off

Dude, my new mechanic is me! I don't know much, but it's gotta be more than my last 3 mechanics. (Believe it or not, the first two were just as stupid).
