Clutch problem for 1997 Wrangler

This is the second time in less than a year I have run into this problem with my 1997 Wrangler clutch. It seems the great team at Chrysler decided to use a 'plastic' retaining clip to attach the clutch pedal to the master slave pivot arm eye. As previously mentioned, the piece has broken twice in the last year, while driving mind you, thus sending the clutch pedal to the floor. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Ive actually run into a similiar problem with my 83 cj-7, except it was a plastic bushing for the clutch rod. Everything i would take it out anywhere offroad, or even on long trips it would eventually give way and let the pivot ball chip the bushing up, thus causing the clutch rod to come out and allow the clutch to fall to the floor. My suggestion to make, or find someone who can make a clip for you out of a decent grade metal or maybe a 6061 greade aluminum.

Re: Clutch problem for 1997 Wrangler

i just welded a little piece of sheet metal over the arm going into the firewall, so the ball at the end could not fall out anymore. boy does it suck when your cruising at 70 mph, and the pedal falls off, kinda scary. it only happened when i hit a big bump, or took my foot off the clutch too fast.

Jeep Wrangler Clutch Pedal

I have had the exact same problem. The plastic clip that fits on the pin that originates from the clutch pedal broke, allowing the ring that fits over the pin to fall off making the clutch pedal hit the floor. Jeep Dealer told me it would be $500 to fix this because they would have to replace the master and slave cylinder. I tried worm clamps, faucet washers, and a number of other hair-brained solutions (nothing worked, by the way) ... I am thinking I might try to take out the pedal assembly, which looks complicated and trying to replace the pin with some type of clevis pin and cotter pin ... thoughts? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
