Thumbs up Have you seen the new Maybach Coupé?

It's.. elegant-pimpin-hardcore-gigantic

700 DIN-HP, ~4.4sec 0-60, ~350kph in tests
5.9l V12 turbocharged

it's already developed streetlegal in Germany - but this car won't be produced, probably.

edit: and a new image -

It almost has the same the future lies in simple lines and rounded corners aproach like the 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse and the initial Nissan GTR R35 concepts. Actually, its basic shape almost looks like a crose between the two.

This car, "Exelero" is the name, was developed for a new type of tires, I think. But if produced, they would need to smooth the lines out a little bit, and make it as classy as the 57 and 62. Just like the Bentley GT to the Arnage or Flying Spur. So it begs the question, Where's the Rolls-Royce coupe?

That isn't a real Maybach.

Maybach used to be a completely seperate German car maker.

Maybach and Mercedes have collaborated since the beginning of the automobile. So seeing how the "real" Maybach doesn't exist anymore, it's completely fitting that MERCEDES bring the name back. Are you aware that Gottleib Daimler left Wilhem Maybach his company after he died? Are you aware that the first "Mercedes" was designed by Wilhelm Maybach?

Maybach has roots with Mercedes-Benz, but Maybachs didn't continue to use Mercedes-Benz parts after the first Maybach.

Maybach didn't meet sales goals last year, but they were profitable unlike Rolls-Royce.

Maybe they could have skipped the Bugs-Bunny-teeth grille.

I think that this car will never see the light of the day. this is just the design exercise from which future mercedes products can have design clues. I read the article in one of the auto publication { either motor trend or automobile magazine} in which the chief engineer and designer acknowledged that this car was kind of developed around the tires. I do not remember the name of the tire company but this car is supposed to put the tire company in the line with perelli (sp?) and other european major tire companies. On the lighter note

Re: Have you seen the new Maybach Coupé?

It's appearance is horrible.
It does remind me of the '70's Lincoln Mk IV and V
Huge, overstyled and mostly useless

Cool

In the August 2005 Car and Driver, the column on the Maybach Exelero by Juergen Zoellter opened with the aptly given title:

"Lord Vader, Your Car is Ready"

and included such quotes as "...and if Darth Vader and Batman were to step out, it would somehow all make sense...."

I'm excited about this car:
twin-turbo 5.9L V-12, churning out 691hp, 752 pound-feet of torque. Definitely a heavy-weight in the class with the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish and Bentley Continental GT, this monster weighs in at more than 3-tons (about 6,500lbs). She tops the meter at 218mph, accelerating to 62mph in 4.4s.
This monster is said to wear a tag of over a half a mill, more than the Benz's SLR.
