4x4 switch replacement

I have a '99 Z71 and I'm having the typical problems with my 4x4 switch and I want to replace it. Can someone tell me how I get to the switch? Do I access it from behind the dash or does the front of the dash come off somehow?
I can't really tell what needs to be removed to access that switch.
Thanks.

Re: 4x4 switch replacement

You need to remove the outer dash trim piece. Set your emergency brake, and put the truck in 1. Tilt your steering wheel all the way down. Start removing the outer piece by pulling it, usually thes best place to start is above the large vent in the middle beside the radio. After this is removed, you can access the switch from the front of the dash. I think it just snaps out.

Re: 4x4 switch replacement

should be able to get the switch at your local dealership. Not sure if any autoparts stores carry them or not, but it wouldn't to call up a few in your area first. I believe I heard someone mention on here before that they run around $55, but i'm not sure.

Are you sure it needs to be replaced? Another member here has posted a simple method to repair it. I did it to mine and it works great! Do a search to try and find it. The short version is to look at where the pins are soldered on the little board. If you see a tiny hairline ring in the solder, that is a crack. Re-solder those pins and you are good to go!
