Question about Turbo Timers

Hey, im "kinda" lookin into FI (not sure if it's worth the money to risk braking anything), and am curious exactly what a turbo timer does. Ive read that it allows your engine to idle for a set period of time before it shuts off completly so that the turbo and whatnot has enough cool down time. Does that mean that after you take the key out of the ignition your car still idles for however long to cool itself down? Just a stupid question, but am curious about.
