Love an honest mechanic!

FYI - A friend has 2001 Sunfire, called me up said the car sat for 2 hours and started overheating, he did not know how long it sat overheating, anyhow, the blower on the back of the radiator did not work...checked the fuse, needed replaced. Replaced the fuse, started the car.....when the temp hit 180-185 the fan clicked on for half a rotation, and blew the fuse. Okay, fan was bad....$30.00 later and about an hour replaced the motor (simple job made difficult because of confined space). Started the car, fan came on at 180 but kept getting hot. So, on to the thermostat, replaced the thermostat (removing the alternator makes it easier) thinking problem solved.....

Nope, still overheated.......now I had the bad news to tell my friend that it was the water pump or head gasket or blown head. Called a few shops and got quoted 800-1100 from one and $2000 (never call him again) from another to replace the head.

Car got towed..........got a call and said the car was fixed same day, bill was $109 which included towing.

Long story short......the collant system was "vapor locked", just thought I would share my story because everyone I spoke to said it was the head gasket..........hope this helps someone in the future!
