4.6 to 5.0 swap help
my brother has a 1996 mustang GT with the 4.6 and he has to redo the engine, but we can get a 5.0 out of a mercury for pretty cheap.... we need to know what is involved with this particular swap....
i'm a chevy guy so i don't know if there is anything different with fords and modular engines. if it's a pretty straight foward swap, we shouldn't have any problem doing it as, I've done a swap before. he has a 5 speed manual. Thanks.

Re: 4.6 to 5.0 swap help
The 4.6 is a better motor. Keep it.

Re: 4.6 to 5.0 swap help
I wouldnt go as far as to say the 4.6 is a better motor, its more modern but with a few simple mods, a 5.0 will see far better power. I've owned one Mustang with a 5.0, and loved it when it was stock, but once i added stuff, like some rockers, heads, intake, etc, I LOVED IT EVEN MORE, Now I'm building a 1991 fox, and guess what motors goin in! the good ol' 5.0

Re: 4.6 to 5.0 swap help
To you the 4.6 is a better motor, but I'm sure i got some people backing me up on saying to them the 5.0 is better. Now, to tell you truth, a better oiling system or better cylinder head design doesnt make a motor for me, its the reputation, and dependability. I've known 5.0s to run 250,000+ miles and still crank right up. Course i've known some 4.6s to do that too, I'm not saying the 4.6 is a bad motor AT ALL, I love it infact. But the thing is that its really easy to find parts for 5.0s, and they are easier to work on. And make pretty much whatever horsepower you want out of it, just gotta have the time and money.
I say that its all about opinion, some people like the 5.0s some the 4.6s, i love my 5.0 and wouldnt have traded it in a million years for a 4.6, and im sure i'll love the 5.0 im putting in my project stang. (big big plans for it) I dont know about a new block either, my bud ran 550+ rwhp with factory block. (Atleast as far as we know)

Lets just say both engines are some of the best engineering done by Ford and you can't lose going with either one. That ok?
The 4.6 showed us what it could do in the '03 Cobra. Then again if you go cruising on a Saturday night you'll see some mean 5.0s driving around that will surprise you big time. It's a win, win situation here.

Re: 4.6 to 5.0 swap help
This is true, look at my post about "pretty neat video" that will show some comparison between them.. its an 03 cobra vs TT 5.0

I agree, as much as I love the 5.0 what that 4.6 can do with a supercharger is enough to make you sick. Can't really go wrong with either.
Anyone catch Junes issue of MM&FF. 3V mod motor with a 1200 Novi made 559hp at 6,200 RPM with no intercooler @11psi of boost. When they changed the pulley and upped the boost to 13psi it made 613hp. Thats sick regardless of what motor your loyal too. May have to rethink this mod motor thing.

Re: 4.6 to 5.0 swap help
ok... you all lost the original question... the question was how difficult is the swap and is there anything special involved?? we are not deciding between the two... we are going to go with the 5.0 as long as it will easily fit in without problems.
We are also keeping the 4.6 to rebuild it later... I know its a better engine. we need to know if there is anything different about: engine mounts accessories custom work needed? etc.
