Angry 2002 ford exp. shudders when accelrating on inclines ?

ok gentleman my 2002 xlt shudders when accelerating on any incline or hill. it has 74000 miles. the only other way i can describe it is that it hesitates or kind of kicks in and out like it is slipping? (only does this on inclines any declines or level rd and it is fine) any ideas? i would greatly appreciate any problem as this vechile is starting to make me wonder? i just replaced a rear wheel bearing that cost me 550 bucks ouch. thanks again--bob

Is the engine knocking/cavitating?

I had a similar problem on my '93. I thought it was the timing but the '93 was the first exploder to have an electronic timing computer, so no way to change the timing. This is what I was told when I took it in to a local 4x4 shop. What they suggested was to have the Mass Air Inflow Sensor replaced. I think it was around $300 for diagnostic and shop time. After that is was still knocking a bit.

A friend and I poked around and found a few missing vacuum covers. I replaced those and cleaned out the air filter and the knocking went away.

check the air intake lines and filter and poke your head in there and look. That is how I found them.
