Lights are on! warning noise wont turn off

I have a 2000 VW Jetta and I am having problems with a noise from turning on the lights. The running lights on the Jetta are always on, by default. But, at night if I want to turn on the dashboard lights and the second headlights a constant beep noise stays on. The noise sounds like the noise you get when you leave your lights on right before you get out of the car. It's the warning noise for, "You left your lights on, turn them off" NOISE. The problem is, the noise will not stop, even when I am driving and all the doors are closed. I have had the car for 4 years now and this just started to happen about a month ago. Does anyone know what might be casuing this?

By the way, the key (3-button transponder) used to work fine. But know it will only unlock the doors, not lock them. If I try to lock the doors from the drivers side car, it only locks the back two doors and the passanger side, I have to manually put the key in and turn it to the right to lock the drivers side door. In addition, the bottom to lock the doors on the key transponder seems to be jammed or smooshed down. Not sure if any of this has anything to do with the light noise issue, just wanted to check.

Does the interior light work properly? The door latch sensor switch may think the door is open.

Yea, sounds like driver side door latch is malfunctioning. There is a microswitch in there that senses when the door is open or closed hence the light tone always on, the switch is problably stuck open making the car think that the door is always open and to always sound the alarm even when the door is closed.

I think I have the same problem. Can you advise on a part number(s) that should be replaced to fix the door latch? Thanks.
