Are Geo Metro Automatic Transmissions any good?

I'm looking for a second Geo Metro.

I saw a 91 Geo Metro with an automatic transmission
for $2,500 in Spokane. Outrageous price!

Were the automatics from 90-98 any good?

Did they break down easily?

Who made them (US or Foreign) ?

This Geo had a 10,000 total miles odometer guage!
Turns over to 00,000 after 10,000 miles! Incredible!

Only GOD knows how many miles on that car....

Well my 91 auto has 140,000 miles on it and still going strong. Same seals and no leaks. The pan has a drain plug in it which is nice. It's also very easy to do a t-tech transmision fluid exchange yourself on these. The in and out lines are on top of the trany and very easy to get to.

Infact I replaced my engine with one of those e-bay japan motors last fall. At that time I took the pan cover off, and the thing was spotless inside.

I think it's a good unit. If it breaks, you can get the ones from Japan very cheap!!

Only down side is it's only a 3 speed and they rev up alot at 65mph or more, and that will decrease your fuel milage.

If I keep mine around 55-60 on the highway I get around 40MPG, anthing faster and the mileage sucks.

My 93 3cyl automatic has 115k on it and is flawless. Would I pay that price? Hell no, But mine is one hell of a car. And oh yeah, I paid $300 for mine last year.

If it's in perfect condition, I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for it. The autos don't quite match up with the gas mileage of a stick, but they're very reliable.

My '90 Metro hb AT had some shifting problems at 250,000 miles that I still have to resolve.

It is hard to shift from Park to Reverse, so I shift from Park through to Neutral and then to Reverse.

At least this will give you an idea of how much mileage these trannys can go before having issues.
