Tranny question
Hey my good ol 460 hasnt been being to good here lately, just old. So i was plannin to get a build kit so i can remove the torque management with a nelson tune and all the goodness. But the tranny is definatly showin signs of being in its final stages of life. So should i get a build/shift kit or a re-build kit? whats the difference? Any suggestions on what kind? I have never worked on a transmission before but plan to remove it from the truck when i work on it so i can check out a rear main seal leak also.

Re: Tranny question
a shift kit will just reek havoc on a tired transmission, due to lower fluid flow.....

Re: Tranny question
I have the Transgo Reprogramming Kit installed in my 96 Impala SS and I am very happy with it. But it only had 64K on it when I did it.
I would recommend both a rebuild kit and Transgo kit. The rebuild kit will include all the soft parts and clutches. The Transgo will make sure that the clutches don't wear out by increasing line pressure and fluid to the clutches. Alot of the tranny rebuilders install the Transgo when they rebuild a 4L60-E. //2000CAYukon |

Re: Tranny question
So then how much money we talkin to but all this? I wanna get a corvette servo too, unless something similar would be included in one of those kits..? Also how long should this take to do cuz this is my only vehicle so i hope to do all the tranny work and replace the crank seal in a weekend.

Re: Tranny question
I spent about 8 hours doing the Transgo on my SS; however, getting to the servo was a bear. I had to drop one of the cats and I had to bend some metal to get the cover off. That was probably a couple of hours right there. I was also doing this on my back.
It will be much easier to do it with the tranny out of the vehicle. I have no experience with rebuilding the rest of it, so I can't help you there. The Transgo was around $90 and it did not come with the corvette servo (the SS already had one). The servo is around $25. On www.4l60-e.com they list $199 for a Master Rebuild Kit. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. //2000CAYukon |

Re: Tranny question
How hard is it to rebuild a tranny if you have it out to where you can work on it?

A shiftkit could be installed very quickly if the tranny was out. Hour or less. //2000CAYukon |
