Arrow ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

Alright, I've got a question for anyone. But first, DONT answer this as in "well I'm doing it right now, because see i really wanted to do this blablabla" I want people to answer it as a "what would I do if I was STEVE from DETROIT, who's single, 28, and likes nintendo, pretzels, romantic summer outings, and blondes?"

THE QUESTION...
If you had an opportunity to do the one thing you've really wanted to do your 'whole life'; your dream. Your dream job. You'll make money doing it, so you can survive, but the amount of money isn't guaranteed. Nonetheless, it's that thing, that thing you've always dreamed of doing. And you'll be getting paid to do it. But there's 3 catches:
1) You've already got a job and you've got good job security. It's not a job you hate by any means and in a few months or years you are going to be set working at this job, making good money and earning a good living. You won't find another job like this and if you quit that's it.
2) Your dream job is risky. Not necisarily to [ending] your life, but it's risky to the rest of your life. What you could be doing could fall apart, which could hurt you for years and years to come. It couldn't fall apart just at any roll of the dice, or a flip of a coin, or if it rains on a tuesday, but it's a bit shaky, and if you're not careful, at least for a while, it could fall apart and you'll be left with nothing. Of course there's variables beyond your control too that could happen that could really hurt you as well, but like I said... not just at any whim.
3) You probably won't get paid as much money. In fact, you could get paid dramatically less, and most everyone has rent, and mortgages, and bills to pay. There's no guarantee to what kind of paycheck you could be bringing home. Of course a year or two down, you might be able to really rack in $, but you may not be guarenteed food on the table at the end of the day sometimes.

Now say you've got not much to lose. You've got a rent, big deal. But you don't have a family and you don't own your home. You've got some bills, maybe a car loan, whatever. No huge deals. So you're not 40 and risking your life, and that of your family, and your kids, their well being, etc. You've got some good freedom, still. But that also means you can screw yourself up for later. This opportunity can be very very sweet, and it's really exactly what you'd dreamed of and you can really do it. But like I said, there's that tangible risk. The offer isn't going to come back later. It's on the table now. What do you do...? Do you follow your dream, do what you love, or do you stay secure? Should you let your dream remain a dream? Would that be a crime? Take it seriously guys.

Re: ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

In my honest opinion, that is too risky of a chance to take. It's like trying to become a movie star or something else. If i could go back to what i was doing at first with no frills, I'd do it. Not everybody has a chance to do what they love, but what they like. I love music and cars. I also love programming (tryin to learn) I would love to go off into anyone of those fields and be happy. But as we all know only one can truly make you happy which is why when I feel its the right moment, i will go for it. That way i won't regret it if my decision goes wrong. In the way i feel right now, i don't think i could handle a decision like that yet, Especially after the relationship i had. I don't trust my instincts yet.

But hey, thats what new online businesses go thru all the time.

Re: ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

If I was single and had nothing holding me back, shure I would jump on it in a heart beat. Life is about taking chances. As I am now, I would have to pass. I would rather dream than risk loosing every thing I have acomplished.

Re: ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

Where you are in your life, go for it. You dont have anything to hold you back. If you honestly think you can have a chance to succeed at something you really love then you shouldnt think twice about it. Lets say you fall flat on your face. What do you lose, a job that you obviously didnt care THAT much about to begin with, you have no one depending on your income excluding yourself so if you fail it wont be hard to pick yourself back up. You will be able to afford to eat. I have eaten nothing but rice and raman noodles for months on end because i was so broke, its really not that bad once you get used to it.

I say go for it, this chance might only come once in your life and I honestly think if you pass it up you will be kicking yourself for years to come.

So hypothetically what would this job be?

Re: ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

28. Single. Chance at doing what you LOVE to do for the rest of your life. Some risk. I say go for it. You can always get some job later that's secure (like auto insurance) and not exciting, but to do what you love to do.....you can't put a price tag on it.

Re: ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

well I don't really want to leave college either. I've got a few semesters under my belt and stuff. And if I get out, there's that chance that i just won't be able to drag myself back in. On the other hand, the university is going to make me take a semester or two off due to grades. So I've got at least a year to do nothing but work. And there's always night school... so many factors; so many choices.

Re: ANSWER My Hypothetical Situational Life Question

Life is a set of risks... Life is merely a game. If you think it's worth the risk, go for it. But even a shred of doubt in your mind now, will haunt you forever if it backfires. Only do it if you feel right and good about it.
