Shut off all lights - 1995
Ok, my friend has a 1995 Continental and we can't manage to get all the exterior lights to turn off. I know that pushing the e-brake on should do the trick, but it isn't. Is there a setting somewhere to allow this to work or would a "door ajar" cause it to keep the lights on for some reason?
I'm going to fix the door ajar problem today, but we need to figure out the light thing before the drive-in opens again. Later. |

Find and turn off the "Auto" lights. On my TC it's intergated into the headlight switch but I've heard through other posts there's other configurations as well.

I'm not talking the headlights, I'm talking the running (daytime) lights. I know that turning the autolight feature to "off" will turn off the headlights, but there's still the "daytime" lights - and there's always a way to turn these off.

The daytime running lamp system uses a daytime running lamps control module and bracket assembly on the LH inside fender located above the wheel well, toward the front of the vehicle. * The wiring is connected to theheadlamp dash panel junction wire. * The daytime running lamps control output consists of rapidly pulsating short bursts of power which cannot be measured using most multimeters. * Daytime running lamp control output cannot be adjusted. ************************************************ Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) Control Removal and Installation 1. Remove the battery tray. 2. Remove the engine air cleaner. 3. Remove two screws retaining daytime running lamps control to LH inner fender. 4. WARNING: DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS CONTROL MODULE GETS VERY HOT DURING OPERATION. BE SURE MODULE HAS COOLED BEFORE HANDLING IT. Disconnect electrical connector and remove daytime running lamps control. 5. To install, reverse Removal procedure. *************************************************

OK, I'll post the part about the Parking Brake, since that seems to be the problem
DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
Pinpoint Tests ( I'll show the list, and only detail the parking brake, Test C)
PINPOINT TEST C: HIGH BEAMS ON AT REDUCED INTENSITY WITH PARKING BRAKE APPLIED
C1 CHECK PARKING BRAKE SWITCH * Turn ignition switch to RUN; turn headlamps off. * Disconnect parking brake signal switch and bracket; using a jumper wire connect Circuit 22 (LB/BK) to a known good ground. * Did high beams turn off? Yes REPLACE parking brake signal switch and bracket. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. No GO to «C2». C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 22 (LB/BK) * With jumper wire still connected, disconnect daytime running lamps control. * Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, measure resistance of Circuit 22 (LB/BK). * Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes REPLACE daytime running lamps control. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. No SERVICE Circuit 22 (LB/BK) for open circuit. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. ************************************************** ** Inspection and Verification 1. Verify the customer's concern by following these steps: a. Turn ignition switch to OFF. b. Turn headlamp switch ON. c. Check low beam headlamp operation. d. Turn high beam headlamp ON with dimmer switch. e. Check high beam operation. f. Check high beam indicator located in instrument cluster for proper operation. g. Turn high beam headlamps OFF. h. Turn low beam headlamps OFF. i. Note: Service headlamp concerns before checking daytime running lamps. Check daytime running lamps system operation: (1) Turn ignition switch to RUN. (2) Check for high beam headlamps ON at reduced intensity. 2. Inspect to determine if one of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply: VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical

3. If the inspection reveals obvious concern(s) that can be readily identified, service as required. 4. If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, determine the symptom(s) and go to the Symptom Chart.

Please tell me how you fixed your "door ajar" problem. 1995 Lincoln keeps putting that message on the display even though no doors are ajar. I have tried to figure it out, but can't. When the car thinks a door is ajar, every time you come to a stop at night, all the interior lights come on...it's embarrassing. I pulled the fuse for my interior lights because of the "door ajar" problem. If you fixed it, please share with me how you resolved the problem.
