Unhappy A/C cuts out

First, thanks to all that have posted and all the education I've received. Problem: 1991 T-Bird 114,000 mi. New A/C installed Jul-1998 (used R134a), Oct-1998, had wide-open-throttle relay replaced cause A/C was intermittant, Sept.-2002 had pressure switch replaced cause A/C was not working. Now under heavy acceleration A/C stops being cold (blower still works). In idle in driveway, can rev-up as much as I want and A/C works O.K. A/C is pretty cold for a 14-year-old Bird. Any ideas ???----Thanks in advance

Re: A/C cuts out

I have the same model and year... my car always is slightly cool on VENT, and with Max A/C blasted its just blowing warms/slightly cool air.
I don't know where to start with A/C's but I'm guessing it could use frion? or a recharge kit? Isn't refridgerant for our car expensive now?

A Quick Fix for now... What I have on my car is a 12 Volt FAN clipped on the side of my glove box. It's extremely affective at night time and helps during the day. Only cost's about 10$ at walmart. hahaa It helps! Summer time is here.

And on that note you might want to get a Radiator flush if your living in an hot area before temperatures rise. Since the main cause of breakdowns in the summer is obviously overheating. =P

Re: A/C cuts out

During high engine speeds and acceleration the compressor clutch is disengaged which shuts off the compressor. It doesn't sound like you have a problem.

HI, I'm have that problem where the a/c cuts out too fast . it's only engaging for about 3 sec. at a time. or is this normal and where is the wide open throttle relay? also i thought it could be the blend door actuator because it seems my heater works but not hot enough just like the a/c , cool but not cool enough. thats for you help.

1st mamas bird---wot switch cuts off ac at Wide Open Throttle to give all the acceleration possible-only operates in gear--normal operation

2nd valdi7--- you have low pressure problem -get it charged and will not have a problem and seperately flush heater core probably causing not enuff heat

3rd donald91-- yours is either not charged or electrical not working and yes r12 is about $110 a lb and your car takes about 4lb
