1996 horn quit working need advice

My 1996 2dr Blazer 4x4 horm quit working, I am due for a safety inspection so I need some quick trouble shooting advice. I will first check for 12 vdc at the horn plug, if its there check horn ground , and then replace horn if needed. if 12 vdc is not there is there a horn relay ? fuse ? finally How do I test the horn button in steering wheel or clock spring the signal goes through. All advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

I think you're heading down the right track. Remember to have someone push the horn on the steering wheel while you are testing for 12v DC at the horn lead.

One other tip, Our friends in Detroit used to run the horn relay through things like the annoying seat belt buzzer/indicator system. If you have disconnected or damaged anything like this, the horn won't work until you reconnect it.

Start small, check the fuse first. It will be a constant 12v fuse, not sure about the Blazer offhand but in many vehicles it is also tied to the radio memory or dome light, etc.

No 12 volts at the horn when steering wheel pad is pressed. The fuse is good it also controls the dome lights and other stuff, i ohmed it out anyway checked fine. The owners manual description for the fuse says horn relay. Anyone know where the horn relay is ? I see 3 realys in the glove box, and 3 relays under the hood on firewall, but did not see a dscription of those relays in the owners manual.

There is a horn relay.

Also,I think on older models the horn may be grounded by it's mounting bracket on the body.
Either way I would clean the terminals on the horn.
I've had voltage at the connector, but
slightly corroded terminals caused it not to work.

My 96 has two terminals at the horn one shows less than an ohm to ground (good) no 12 volt signal on the other. I need to find the horn relay and test it.

Well I fixed the horn, on my 1996 the horn relay is the center one in the glove box. I could short the terminals at the relays contacts and make the horn sound, and I could grond the input terminal to the relay and make the horn sound so it had to be farther back. I removed the to halves at the steering column and grouned the black horn wire at the multi function switch and horn sounded. removed air bag and checked contacts at steering wheel were good. Finally found the little brass button that contacts the rotary slip ring did not have enough spring tension make a good connection. took the multi function switch apart and the spring that pushes the button out is copper or brass, I tried to stretch it out but it quickly compressed and lost tension, so I used a spring fron a clicker type pen and altough its on the longer side it will compress in there and all is fine now.
