Anti Theft Stero System Code

I have a 1998 Grand Prix that I purchased from a private party about a year ago and no longer can contact him. Anyway, my battery died and when I charged it my stereo was locked! After reading owner's manual, I knew I needed a code. Well, guess you can figure out my question.... How can I get my stereo to work again without having to take it to the dealer and be charged up the __________? And even then I am not sure if they can help. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the code or bypass it?

Re: Anti Theft Stero System Code

I'm not sure there is a way to bypass it without going to a dealer. That's why my dad never would let me set a theftlock code on any of my cars. He said it was a major pain in the rear to get it reset if you forgot or lost the code.

Here you go;

** Theftlock Bypass

1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed.

2. Write the numbers down.

3. Press the AM/FM button, write down the next 3 numbers.

4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 620529, press the # button and enter the 6 digit code from the radio, you will get an unlock code, write it down.

5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM/FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on radio.

To remove customers code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.

EDIT: Updated with new dealer code. FWIW, the old code was 202107

If that code doesn't work. Take it to dealer. Diff. radio. They will set it for free, if it's your radio.

What are you smoking dealers will not unlock the radio for free. Dealers will not fix a problem without charging you something.

BTW Kustom your advice is called theft of services. Does the dealership know you are using thier codes and posting them on the internet?

Do you know those codes have been passed around EVERY GP site for forever. Also, the two dealers down the street from me will give them to you over the phone.

Flatrater, you must be one of those who charge! It is nice to know there our people who will help unlike people like you who are actually the thiefs and noboby asked for your 2 cents

There posted above. I listed the same way I did mine. It's the way a friend of mine gave them to me. I used and listed them step by step.
Good luck.

Re: Anti Theft Stero System Code

hey there FLATRATER, i've read 2 different posts, both of them had you giving your negative, unforum-friendly opinion. why are you on here anyway, seems to me you whine just as much as the ones you complained about in the last post i read?
i very much appreciate all the information i get on this website. unlike you, apparently, i don't have the money to go to the dealership every time something goes wrong. especially since i'm a girl and don't know that much about cars. and mine is a lemon which i've been trying to get fixed but after 3 mechanics who've fixed things, i have many many more problems than i can possibly afford. so many that i can't take that much time off work to pick it up and drop it off because who would pay the bill? why don't you try to be a little more positive? that's why the rest of us are here....
