Cost For Suicide Doors On An 80's Camaro.

Hello. This is my first time posting here. I hope the community is friendly to newbies. Also, I should state- I am --not-- a gear head. I pick up bits and pieces as I go, but I am not particularly mechanically inclined.
---

Anyway, my question: How much would it cost to put suicide doors on an 80's Camaro and to shave off the handles? I know that just about anything can be done to a car- if you're willing to lay down the cash. I would be willing to purchase all the parts myself and bring them to a shop to installastion if it saves me money. (Cause I know how those shops just jack up the prices when they start putting in the time, which I understand. It's a lot of work to customize a car.) I'd rather spend the extra green then have it done wrong. Would $2,500 be a reasonable estimate, or would that come closer to getting a SINGLE door? As you can see- I'm kind of ignorant on what stuff costs in the real world. Too much TV and too many video games.

At anyrate, any comments would be greatly appreciated. Also, I noticed that some posts on suicide doors refer to a dead-bolt add-on. Apparently locking the door shut. I'm guessing by that statement that modern suicide doors aren't much safer than their predacessors?

---
I appologize for any typoes. Lived with SpellCheck for too long. Thanks again for your time.

Re: Cost For Suicide Doors On An 80's Camaro.

dang your camaro looks pretty sweet. im not to sure suicide doors are that great of an idea. the diirs are pretty big and heavy and you would probaly have to do some major door jam remodeling. your talking about the doors opening up backwards right? not lambo style?? im not to sure either will work out to great. if i were you i would cal up a local customizing shop and ask them about setting you camaro up with some suicide doors. probably gonna take some mad cash though. i would have to go walk outside and take a peak at my camaro to see what the doorjams look like but it might end up being really easy. try a shop though first.

Heh heh. I wish that I could claim that Camaro as mine- but its a pic from Google. I drive a 1986 Mercury Capri, but I've seen Camaros for cheap around here. (2,500 - 5,000) My plan is to save my money up, by one (preferably already in black) and then do the door job. By then maybe I'll have figured out what I want with the inside.

I did mean suicide- read hinged, but what is "lambo" style? I'm afraid I am brand new to the modding scene. (Or automotive work in general-- I'm only 18, and I really haven't looked at getting my "own" car before now.)

88camaroproject- To get pics in your sig here 1 way you can do it
1- Go to http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga....php?login=yes and log in
2- (top right side of screen) click on upload photos
3- Follow upload instructions
4- Click "my gallery" and the you "signature" picture
5- Towards the bottom it will list something like http://files.automotiveforums.com/ga...54New_Sig1.jpg (make sure you leave the img part of it in, I didn't so I wouldn't post a picture)
6- Paste that url into you sig (with the img part)
7- Save

Hope this helps, if not pm me

I've felt like putting suicide doors on my 3rd gen, but then I was wondering how much it cost and was like "Nah" but I still think they'd look pretty sweet.

Maybe I should find a model, like one for PC-Vice City, and throw it into a modeling program and prop the doors open suicide-style. I would hate to invest all that money and suddenly go "Hey, that doesn't look as cool as I thought."

I guess I shy away from Lambo/Vert doors because "everyone" has them. Or at least that's my perspective of it.

(Yes, they DO look cool- I admit that.)

Yeah, Lambo doors would look fine. I guess I was just thinking that suicide doors might be more original. Heh, at anyrate I have a couple of years before I even have the Camaro, so I'm not going to stress this too much. I was really just looking for a ball park figure of doing the door job so I could figure what I would do to the car first.

(Interior or exterior)

I agree on what he said about Vert doors, I mean they look badass and all but to me it's like having a huge ass fart can on a ricer, everyone has/wants one, and I feel that having suicide doors would be more less of the crowd like.
