oil leak
I have oil leaking off the starter and I am concerned that it might be the rear main seal on my 96 Suburban, 5.7L 2WD. I recently changed the intake manifold gasket because coolant was leaking from the front. That leak is fixed and this one appeared. I checked the back of the manifold near the distributor and some of the RTV is sticking out and is wet with oil but not bad (my opinion). I cannot see any further down the back of the engine. The valve cover gaskets are dry. I would hate to have to take that manifold off again, better than a rear main seal I guess. Any better options to using RTV? Any thoughts?

Re: oil leak
The one piece rear mains are pretty good and rarely leak. It might be worth your while to use a dye to find the source of the leak.
My money is on the rear of the intake. //2000CAYukon |
