US bound Lancer Evolution

Like the rest of us here in the US, I have been dreaming of getting the Evo for a long time. However I didn't look into getting on "The List" until I found the .pdf specs on the Evo 7. I took those into my local dealer and told them, "this is what I want and I want to be on 'The List' when it comes available." The response from the dealer was "where the Hell did you get this information? and why don't we know about it?"
That was three months ago... So far I have learned that giving a US dealer the latest info will get you tickets to the Auto Show, a free Mitsubishi cd, but no name on the list. I also have learned that Mitsu's next update to the Lancer is an Evo body style version within the next six months. But not the full Evo. I guess they want to tease us for a while longer...

There was an EVO VI in America before sales and the guy had his car stolen within 24 hours. Funny thing is the car was right hand drive...wonder how the thieves managed to drive away and shift gears!

OK guys relax..... Even a dutch Mitsubishi dealers told me that the EVO VII was coming to the states (he was very disappointed that Mitsu Netherlands has decided to stay away from the product).

So there must be some truth to all the rumours. Downside was that he told me you US lot get the GT-A version. This means the automatic...... (I allways knew that the Ammies couldn't drive with a stick )

GT-A only...

If Mitsu only brings over the GT-A, most of us will NOT buy it. Any true enthusiast would be insulted by such a move. They'll probably bring it, but a manual tranny, as well. If not, they will lose a lot of business, and they know it.

GT-A only...hell no!!

I agree, even though ive never driven shift yet i would want a manual. plus ive heard good things about manual transmission. Also i read in some review of the GT-A that it didn't live up to EVO Standards in its "feel".

P.S. it just rocks..duh!

DucMan,

I'd like to look at the pdf file that you are referring to. I am also in the states and I can't wait for the EVO VII to arrive. I have heard so much stuff about this car. It seems that it's even better than the Toyota Supra & Nissan Skyline GTR. I'd like to learn more to see if this is going to be my next car!!

not a joke...

It all depends on your point of view. At this stage in my life, I personally want a fast-ass car that also happens to have four doors. I would choose an evo over the supra or skyline for this reason alone. I have also seen a supra have it's ass handed to it by an evo on the strip (maybe a bad launch or bad shifting, but a win's a win), and I saw video of a skyline and wrx sti getting beat by an evo VI in an ice race. My point is that for what a lot of people are looking for, an evo is the best of all possible choices.

You may not agree, and you may have performance numbers to back it up, but that doesn't mean 0-60 times and lateral g's on a skid pad are the end-all, be-all of the decision, or someone's definition of "better". Nor are looks (I concede that both the Supra and Skyline are as-good-or-better-looking cars than the Evo VII from my subjective point of view, but I still want an Evo more because it does more things I want)

My $.02

let me clarify

I say that I have heard that it may be better than a Supra and a Skyline for these reasons. A stock Supra is not as fast as a stock EVO VII. Now, I may be looking at the wrong sources, but the quater mile times are what I'm talking about. Of course no one in their right mind keeps a Supra stock! But most people don't keep an EVO stock either! The big thing that I've been hearing is how much potential a Supra has. I have also learned recently that an EVO has a lot of horse power potential as well. The EVO will always have the advantage of being AWD.

I don't claim to know everything, that's why I'm here. I want to learn more about the car. Please provide me with side-by-side comparisons. As far as the Skyline, the main problems with them seem to be weight, and electrical problems. But the skyline isn't even the states, so I don't know for sure. I only get information by what I have read so far.

Sorry for the long post!

Check this out.

So I'm at my local Mitsu dealer (I should say stealer) yesterday and I ask the guy if Mitsubishi has decided on a base price for the Evo yet. He told me the same old story that the car will start under $30k. I then ask the guy if the dealers will "alter" that price if there is a high demand, to which he replies "we'll get as much for 'em as we can possibly get", and he smiles at me like a crack dealer counting his money. All that was missing was a gold tooth.

Man, I was affraid of this. This car might turn into the next M3, except that Mitsubishi dealers aren't limited to the amount they can ask for a brand new car like BMW. I think this means serious mark-up because I have a feeling that the demand for these cars will be huge :flash: I really hope this isn't the case but the way that guy smiled at me, he must have known something I didn't know.

I'll tell you one thing, if that car is one cent over $30k I'm not buying, hell, I just can't afford that.

I can picture it now, a year from now I'll be at a stop light next to some 17 year old pumk who's mommy just bought him an EVO for getting an A on his last report card. Some goof who knows nothing about the car except that all the cool kids are talking about them, who has no idea what the hell he has control of, while I'm still be driving my 11 year old Eclipse (which is an awesome car IMO) because the dealers want huge money for the EVO :flash:

Sorry about all the negativety here, it's just that I finally found a car that will satisfy every car need I could possible have at the monent and I'm affraid I won't be able to get it because of some greedy ass dealer.

Anyone else worried about this?

EVO VII brochure

Creophus,

I tried to attach the EVO brochure to the web site, but unfortunatly, it's in .pdf format and can't be attached. If ya still want the brochure there's several here http://www.lancerz.com/pdfs.html and if there's a way to contact you I'll mail it out. Let me know.
