92 voyager 3.3 quit running

I was told that it was the fuel pump. I decided to change the fuel filter. As a test when the key is turned on you can hear the fuel pump start in the tank and a small amount of gas comes out of the hose at the fuel filter and then quites. I was told that was normal. Engine cranks fine but doesn't start. No gas at injector tube. Replaced the emer. shutdown relay, no change. Another interesting item is the tach shows 1000rpm. I disconnected the battery for about15 min. but didn't change. I read in other post that the camshaft sensor controls the fuel pump. Maybe? I was leaning toward the engine controller, but now i don't know. The car has 185,000 and not worth replacing everything. Engine will fire up with starting fluid. Help

I don't agree that a trickle at the fuel filter is normal. The electric fuel pump should put out much more fuel than you are describing. I would spend the money and replace the fuel pump as it is not producing enough pressure to get fuel to the injectors. That is why the vehicle won't run.

Yea sounds like a bad pump for sure. Hay it should have kick out fuel at full pressure.

I agree with GTP Dad. I would have the fuel pump tested. Most likely your fuel pump doesn’t supply enough pressure to the injectors.
