idle seems to race upon first start up

when I first start the van, it seems to idle very high until I give it a shot in the throttle then it calms down. it also wants to die when it is 35 degrees or lower during the day, now that it is warmer this is not an everyday problem but when it rains it starts to want to die when I am sitting at idle, liked parked waiting for my kids at school. Have put injector cleaner in but didn't help the problem. Husband says it also sounds like it is running rough even when it isn't trying to die, maybe it is missing somehow? any help or suggestions will be welcome

Problems when wet are likely caused by bad distributor cap and rotor. Easily replaceable through the engine cover inside the cabin. If yo have a lot of miles, you have to do it anyway. Might also improve the rough running.
