Transimission Harse Shift

I have a 2000 Venture that has a harse 1-2 shift. I was told from the dealer I need a Release Pressure soleniod at the cost of $900. Does this sound resonable? I will be keeping the van for about 3 more years.

Thanks

Hey..... if I could find the parts Soleniod and even as far as replacing the valve body, it this a pretty straight forward repair? I am thinking about doing this myself and was wondering if someone could give me some insight to replacing the valve body and soleniods.

Thanks

Re: Transimission Harse Shift

Good Luck. My brother and I replaced the pressure selonid on my 2000 montana and after I was done I thought that the 900 sounded pretty reasonable. But you need to watch it if you have someone else do it. Make sure they are a good shop and all that. I will give you a website to go to that will tellyou how to do it yourself. It will cost 25 for a one years subscription.

Fixed. I took it to the dealer, and talked them down to $750 for solenoid, and recondition the valve body. It was worth it.

My 2000 venture does this very thing. Sometimes if shifts very hard and irregularly, then other times it's OK. Can it just continue to run like this?

No. Eventually the Torque Converter clutch will lockup. This will cause the vehicle to stall. Just like a manual trans when you don't use the clutch. Get it fixed or you could cause other issues.

Re: Transimission Harse Shift

look up some of the threads that deals with this problem, they said it is pretty common with the t365e tranny which the ventures have and said that it wont hurt it , just an annoyance. only time they said it would cause a problem is when you have enough torque that could mess up the engine but fortunately only high performance or racing cars have those kind a torque. if you feel the harsh shift, pull over and shut off engine for bout 30 sec, then start it again, it worked for me, hopefully for you too. better than $900.
