Speaker Question

I bought a pair of rockford fosgate double component speakers (two tweeters per woofer) for the front of my 98 2 door Tahoe. My problem is that the factory set up has an input running to the factory tweeters and another input (same color wires) running to the woofer. In order to use my crossovers I need to run the input wire into them, but I have two. Is there already a factory crossover somewhere? Are the two input wires just split off the same input wire? If so is it ok just to tape up one of them and just use the other?

Kinda confusing the way I explained, but Id appreciate any help. Thanks!

I went ahead and connected the woofer in stock location and one tweeter on each side in stock location and it sounds great, but not to potential as I do not have the rockford fosgate crossovers in. One problem. The windows dont go down all the way but there is room to put a spacer between the door and the speaker. Still wondering if the two wires are the same input or weather there is a factory crossover somewhere that they are running from....

In my '99 4 door, I installed a set of Infinity components in the front doors. I used the factory locations with some minor modifications and both of my windows go all the way down. I used the mount rings that came with the speakers from crutchfield. From what I could tell, both speaker connections supply the same signal and the stock tweater has a large resistor instead of a crossover. I connected one to the crossover and taped off the other.

I also replaced the back door speakers with some 2way spleakers and installed amp and sub box in the back. I left the stock 4x10 speakers in the back. Everything sounds great.

For others with similar questions:
If you have a 4 door and install an aftermarket stereo, you will need to connect the remote wire from the new stereo to the factory amp wire (pink wire?).

That helps a lot. I will go back in this weekend and tape the stock tweeter wire and put in my crossover. Where is a good location for the crossover? I also noticed that there is room exactly 2 inches from the right edge of the woofer to cut a hole and install the tweeters. Do you think having the tweeters closer to the woofer would make a better/noticable difference? I know people say to align the components vertically, but the stock tweeter locations seem a little far from the woofer.

I mounted my crossover to the outside wall of the door with some 3M tape; it's probably not the best place, but, I think it will last as long as the speakers. I didn't even look for other places to mount the tweeter because I wanted to keep mine as stock looking as possible. I keep the eq flat accross the board and the sub just fills in the bottom end. I listen to mostly to rock/heavy metal but also to some rap and overall my system sounds good no matter what you play in it.
