Is valve tap bad?

Okay, this should be my last thread posting, I've already posted enough. Really simple question: is valve tap bad? I've just noticed that after the engine warms up, I guess, you can hear a slight tapping noise coming from the driver side valve cover, my guess is that it's a valve tap and needs to be tightened down some. I'm going to slightly tighten them anyways, but I am curious, is valve tap bad?

I'm told that silght valve tap is fine. You don't want them too tight though.

It isn't too hard to adjust them, but it's messy.
Remove Valve cover, run motor, back off nut until they tick, then re-tighten it until ticking stops, tighten another 1/2 turn. Only do 1 valve at a time and make sure that the oil is right up there before you start

Look at the exhaust manifold and gasket first, you probably have a small leak causing the noise.
