but a Deaf Lesbian couple have just had another child, but made sure through genetic engineering that the child was born deaf as well, as is their first child. don;t know bout u guys but I think that is soo wrong......

The whole baby industry needs to take a good hard look at where its ethics are going.Already it is commonplace in some countries to use ultrasound as a method of early detection for abortion of female children,donor and surrogate parents are marketed like so much designer luggage,anonymous super-rich are attempting to buy immortality through cloning ,and gay/lesbian couples are blundering through the baby farming business like tramps at a smorgasbord....


It is time to say enough is enough....you get what you are given,make the best of it.Imagine the hurt and resentment this poor kid will feel when he finds out that Mummy and Mummy chose that he should be deaf because they thought it would be 'nice'...If I were to decide that my 5 year old son should really be deaf,and took a knitting needle to his eardrums,I would be thrown in jail,and quite rightly so.Is there any difference if you deliberately set out to produce a disabled person without their consent?

i dont see how that is right in ANY WAY AT ALL.........it doesnt make sense either, so their first kid was deaf......they have no right to deprive another child and i dont know what in the hell would possess them to do so. They shouldnt even be allowed to have kids! Damn.......what a fucked up world.

As for people buying immortality...........im kinda split. I mean in a way its appealing, because ya dont wanna die of course, but of course there are the ethical issues that apply, outliving your loved ones, and the possible influence of negative behaviour from simply not being able to die.....

Anyway, the deaf thing was totally wrong in every way, and id give them both a hell of a lot of jail time if it were me.

but seriously, why deprive your kid of sound, just because you didnt have the chance to hear? What if that kid could have become a famous rock star, or composer, pianist, what have you? They are closing that kid out to so many oppurtunities. I think it's wrong, because i LOVE my music, and i dont know how i could live without it. They have to face the fact that Deafness is a disability!! any way you cut it. I cant stand this country sometimes, the PC is driving me nuts. Its not a cultural identity. Theres no "deaf island" where deaf people have been living for thousands of years. Get over it. Let your kid hear. Christ. Why not make him blind so he can realte better with the blind people too? Heck, lop off his legs so he can relate to people who have to stroll around in wheelchairs, and maybe his testicles too, so he can relate to the impotent guys.

Its not that taking care of a deaf child is a bad thing (which we can all agree) but to be so selfish as to make sure that they produce one is so self centered it makes me sick. They dont care about the childs welfare, they care only about themselves.
