Traction Assist option on 94 Cougars

Does anyone know anything about the traction assist option on this model cougar. I just got it and only know what the owner manual says. It messes with the brakes around 25 to 49 mph. The book says thats what it does, but not sure mine is working right. The Haynes book doesnt say a word about it at all. Thanks for any help.

Just covering the bases.
You do have a switch in the dash/console to activate & de-activate the traction control. Right?

Re: Traction Assist option on 94 Cougars

Yes I have the switch and it seems to still work the same turned off. Even turned off I still feel the rear breaks coming on around 25 to 35 mph or so. I have read alot about it last night and today. It seems to work right tho even off. touch the brakes and it shuts right off, doesnt come on if i take off hard........ so from what i have learned form reading this page and the TCCOA page i can either let it rip everytime i start off or remove pin 25 from the ABS module...... I think that I will do both....... this is a fun car to drive....... Thanks for having a great info page ya'll..............

Re: Traction Assist option on 94 Cougars

The way the system works is when one of the rear wheels starts to spin at low speed the computer tells the break for that wheel to apply some pressure. You can really feel it working off a traffic light on a wet road. If your not sure its working try doing short burnouts on a wet road with it on and off (I know it probably sounds crazy) with it on you should feel the rear brakes pumping to try and keep the wheels from spining. And with it off the wheels should break loose right away.

Re: Traction Assist option on 94 Cougars

yea, i had a hard time figuring that one out too, and then my auto tech teacher finally described it to me and i played with it all the time, usually off, but eventually the circut board or whatever burnt and wouldn't turn it off. so i took it out and i am looking for a wrecked cougar that i could take it from so i can do my damn burn outs with again.

if anyone knows where i might get one cheap, let me know.
