Hi Ca anyone list all the stuff needed to paint a car. I mean i just wanted to know paint wise, not any tools or anything. For example, HOK candy red, with HOK reducer, and stuff like that.

Re: Stuff needed to paint a car

education, practice using a spray gun, and experience before you spend money on automotive quality paint which is expensive. Then research what type of paint you would like to use, there is in order of quality and expense, acrylic enamel single stage, acrylic urethane single stage, basecoat clearcoat system, and three stage which is a basecoat a midcoat of candy or pearl, ect, and finally a clearcoat. Once you decide on type of paint and brand then you can find the tech sheet for it. It will tell you how much to reduce, how much activator to use, how much time between coats, what it can be used over, what the final sanding grit is, ect, a whole bunch of information. Don't know what else you would need because every job is different depending on the car, if it can be painted over existing paint, if you are going to need epoxy primer and urethane primer, or a sealer. Also you have to know what you are dealing with using modern catalyzed automotive paint, They have harmfull chemicals in them, mainly isocyanates which you should read up on. If you get to much exposure to them you could possibly die, or be messed up and have nervous system damage, and the effects of them don't always show right away. Thats why good ventilation and at the very least a charcoal respirator, with an air supplied respirator being recommended. If you are interested in the house of kolor, find their website. It should have information on use of there products. I believe they are owned by valspar now, so you might want to search for that too.
