Completed - Porsche Boxster (56K beware, lots of pictures..!!)

This is the third model I’ve now completed since re-starting model car building, after a VERY long break. First was the Modena 360, then it was the Subaru WRC 1998 Monte Carlo and my third was meant to be a R34 Skyline. Sorry to say, the Skyline has had a few “problems” and is now on hold. Therefore the Porsche Boxster was started, and is now completed. First pictures are the in progress pictures, I built the car Box Stock, colour is Tamiya TS-14 Black. Polished with Micro Mesh and finished with Tamiya Ultra Fine Compound, and then Waxed with Tamiya Wax. The interior is Tamiya Desert Yellow, and detailed with X-18 Black. All in all, a boring build for your modifiers, but overall a decent attempt at my first Porsche. I also painted the window trims FLAT Black to accent more. I did wash the engine etc, but for some reason when I take a photo, it’s not easy to see. And the kit, is excellent to build. Fully enjoyable, well recommended, and I had NO fit problems. I liked it so much I’ve brought a few more to build in different colours and next time I will flock the carpets. Enjoy, thanks for looking –

Progress

I've got a Mercedes SLK to build next, plus I do want to try and save the R34 Skyline if I can.

I should have mentioned that the number plates are painted and have the decals on them to display Boxster, but I haven't attached them, as I'm not sure about them. I painted them yellow for the back, white for the front, same as standard UK plates. Not sure..

And thanks for the comments guys.

Very nice color combo. The gold wheels compliment the tan interior nicely and set off the black body color. Good job.

nice. Interesting choice on the wheel colour, really sets in well with the black.

really nice job!
I'm working on the same car now also my third build, also in Tamiya black - Hope it come out half as good as yours.
Looks like you did some really nice detailing on the instruments too - fotos are a bit out of focus there, but looks as if they're super cool.
Congratulations.

The photos are a little out of focus, as I don't have a stand for my camera. My hands shake when they are used for steady work, I'm amazed I can still build models, as my hand tremor is getting worse. I tend to use a toothpick to bring out the dash details, with the paint that is attached to the top of bottle caps. The paint is thick on the bottle cap, and this means once I get the detail once, because it is thick paint it covers in one go, means I don't have to do it again... Thankfully.

I also use an airbrush for 99% of my painting, as my hands are not steady enough to detail without masking and airbrush work.

Also I'm glad the gold wheels are getting some good replies. I did at first leave them chrome, but it looked a little boring against the black. So I used oven cleaner to strip of the chrome, and then I airbrushed them gold leaf. Looks nicer then the chrome against the black body work.

I do now wish I painted the manifold a mix of copper, with some clear yellow on it. I used a mix of gold and clear yellow with X11 on the back box and it looks cool, but now I look at it more, I missed a trick there and should have detailed a little more. I'll catch it next time I build this kit.

Looks really good, black isn't the easiest colour to get that shiny!
About shaky pictures; You can use a broom stick or just about anything like it to grab and hold with the camera. I do that if I have to take picks from above and need a steady hand.

Keep it up!
