Re: Anti-Freeze ??
The owners manual will tell you which kind of antifreeze to use. It should be Dexcool if it is red. If you have the dexcool stay with it. You can change to the green but you must flush the cooling system several times before changing and you can develop problems afterward. Although some have done it with no ill effects on the engine.

Re: Anti-Freeze ??
The 96's came with the Dexcool, it is the orange/pink color, it is rated for 150,000 miles. I changed mine at about 75,000 because I had a water pump replaced so I just changed the coolant. I did use the Dexcool, that is what the system is designed for so I stayed with it.

You have Dex-Cool in your car. I just changed mine over to the green it takes alot of flushing to get out the red. Dexcool is rated for 150,000 miles but every mechanic i've talked to. Say to drain it and change it every 36,000 just like the green stuff or your asking for problems with your Water pump and Rad.

Re: Anti-Freeze ??
Ayep, like nheuer states, no matter which formula used, best to flush around every 30K, regardless of "high mileage" claims.
Suggest a backflush kit, if ya keeping your ride for a while, Prestone has one, backyard mech. stuff, easy to install. Just cut the correct heater core hose, insert the fitting, clamp it down. The kit has the directions, around $7-8 bucks. |
