steering wheel removal

hello all, is there a write up available regarding steering wheel removal...
my cruise control and horn are not working...i want to see if there is loose connection inside the steering wheel.

or if you have other suggestion on what to check or to fix, i'm listening.

There may be a backup power supply attached to the airbag system of your car that has to be disconnected before you start messing around with the steering wheel air bag module! Just removing the main battery gound cable isn't enough. The problem is I don't know where it is located but hopefully someone else here might.

Well, removing the air bag is very simple, there are only two bolts holding it on. The bolts are on either side if the steering wheel hidden by two round plastic snap covers. As far as I know there is no other power supply for the airbag system. Just disconnect the ground cable on your battery and you will be fine. How do I know? Well, I have a 95 bird and I have just had to remove the air bag several times over the last weekend because I too have had to remove my steering wheel to fix another problem. I also discovered that you will save yourself a lot of time and headaches removing the plastic coller just behind your steering wheel if you lower the steering collum first. It is very easy. There are four nuts that hold your callum up. You will have to remove the lower plastic pannel below the collum to get to the first two nuts. Remove the first two completely (the ones closest to the steering wheel or highest up on the collum) then just losen the the other two lower down on the collum. The Collum will simply drop down giving you all the room you need to remove the plastic coller just behind the steering wheel. Doing this will give you access to the wiring harness behind the wheel. You won't need to remove the wheel it'self but, you will need to remove the airbag unit to access the cruise control switches and horn switch. If you need to remove the steering wheel you will need a large torque bit to remove the center bolt and of course a steering wheel puller. I hope this helps.

Cruise control is simply put part of the multi function switch that all in 1 switch that you use to turn on highbeams..... turnsignals..... cruise emergency hazzards.... its not part of the steeringwheel.
