fuel pump removal

I have a 1994 s-10 pick up with 184,000 miles. The car died on highway yesterday. I suspect fuel pump. This will be the fourth one in the life of the vehicle. Yes I'm buying ac delco this time. I have been dropping the tank to replace but I heard it's easier by taking the bed off and doing it that way. Is this true and what does that entail How many bolts, connectors etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Todd.

Most people seem to prefer raising the bed. Just remove all the bolts, disconect the tail light wires, the filler neck, and then raise the bed.

But since you know where everything is by now you can probably just remove the passenger side bolts, loosen the drivers side bolts right off, then tip the bed high enough to change the fuel pump.

The third option, which I would do is carefully measure out where the fuel pump is and cut a big enough hole to access it through the truck box.
Then take the metal that you cut out and get a welder to make it into a nice easy access cover.

This is what we did in my ole' mans suburban. Much easier than droppin a tank.

Well, i just replace the fuel pump in my 91' two days ago and i suggest just removeing the bed. first you get all the room you need to work. also removeing the hoses i believe would be tricky with just dropping the tank. taking the bed off took about 20 minutes and with help just take it completely off. this will allow you to remove the spare tire lift winch and lube it up very easily. just remember to wire bruch off all the bolts and use antiseise on them, so next time it will only take you about 15 min. to pop the bed.
