99.5 Jetta VR6 AT stalling at idle!!!
I've got a 99.5 Jetta GLS VR6 Auto tranny w/40K that sometimes dies when I come to an intersection to stop for a light. It starts right back up but this is a problem that occurs about every other day!(The check engine light is on!) Can anyone help me understand what is happening? Also, the tranny sometimes lunges into gear when you go from park to reverse or drive! Nothing real bad but it definately hesitates getting into gear sometimes...Any help would be appreciated!!! FYI to all-My cupholder is broken just like just about everyone!!!

Re: 99.5 Jetta VR6 AT stalling at idle!!!
The first problem sounds like a bad mass air flow sensor. Take the car to have the codes read (autozone, pepboys...) just to be sure. The problem with the transmission I won't be much help with, but the cupholder... go down to your local vw dealership or call 1-800-VW-PARTS and buy the new style cupholder. I think they started the new style in 2001. Instead of two holes with little spring arms, it's two big spring arms. It'll fit perfectly into the opening, and it will match the color of the interior (minus any fading of your dash from the last 6+ years.

You can get the codes read at most large auto parts chains.
