Here's the deal. You win a draw to enter a contest because you're a freakin genius when it comes to cars. Here's your situation:
The contest has you and 3 other people competing to build the baddest set of wheels you can in 3 weeks, with a 10,000 dollar budget. They give each of you a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix, blue, V6, automatic, 2-door. basic AM/FM cassette stereo, everything stock. As said you have 3 weeks to build the fastest thing you can out of this Grand Prix, with $10,000 which they give you. What would you do to it? :silly2: Interesting idea, but can you DO it????!!!

does it have to resemble a grand prix when done? like, is taking off all the glass and body panels to make a big dune buggy allowed? :licker:
and since u can strip your own car for free, then u still have $10,000 to modify with? i think that game could be a lot of fun, modding and driving a grand prix based frame around... :silly2: |

hahaha delaysion you beat me too it. i was thinkin of stripin down the interior for weight reduction too. stero ? who needs that? passenger seats? who needs that? lolz and pretty much your left with the bare metal floor boards a dash and a drivers seat. then you got the rest of the money to mod the hell out of that engine.

well, i'd buy a Reccon 496ci 550HP crate motor ($5,800), swap the intake for a Dart single plane for 575HP at $350 and a 1000cfm King Demon carb for $870. the extra $3000 i would put into suspension and a Ford 9" rear end. that's the best i can think of off the top of my head

In my opinion I would use the money firts to reinforce the engine ~ $4000 then turbocharge the heck out of it with another 3000 +boost cotroler. and try to save something for handling.

hmmmm poisonfangs thats not a bad idea. just bolt a lawn car in and you'll have the best visability out there. and you just gotta re enforce the back of hte plastic seat with a piece of steel soo that when you put the seat belt harness in the back it won't wrip when you crash.

i was thinking of going for straight line 1/4 mile performance purely. Hemis are a lot more expensive to begin with than a BB chev. that's why i chose a big block. also, it is possible to fit the motor into that engine bay. the only thing under the hood would be motor- no computer, no smog, nothing. motor mounts can be fabricated if you posess the skills to do it yourself, inner fenders can be removed, firewall can be hacked.... if it is possible to fit a 502 into an S-10 or a 350 into an Alero (both of which reside nearby) then i think it would be possible to do this. but, as they say, "there's only one way to find out...."

I guess you know more about sngine swaps. I am actually interested in one but everywhere i went they said was too complicated and/or expenisive. Do you think I can do a engine swap on mine and wnat would I need.

i would rip all the shit out i could with my bare hands everything from the useless buttons and switches to the passenger seat.
then tune the suspension so it transferes its weight to the back more for less wheelspin through gears and at take off, then spend the rest of the money on boring out the cylinders and putting a huge turbo on it, plus all the other little stuff needed like ecu, injectors. screw engine strengthening, im not planning on running this car more than twice. |

But the question is:
Can all this be done in 3 weeks? The stripping can i'm sure, and i know the engine swap can be done, but what about time to get the motor to the shop? What about ordering parts? That's what i thought would make the 3 weeks thing tricky. As for stripping it right down, hell yeah do it! DO what you want as long as it goes the fastest. FASTER THEN YOU had the right idea when he said 1/4 mile, and MaFi0s0 more so when he said running the car maybe twice. Build it, test it, race it, sell it. That's the idea. Lots of different opinions here........

Neutrino-
what kind of swap were you thinking of doing? the expense and amount of work involved varies depending on who you know, what you can do, and what you want the final result to be. in a late model, engine swaps outside of the car's OEM options (with the exception of a few- stang, 'maro, monte carlo etc..... which have kits ready made for motor swaps) can be tricky if it is not an all out 1/4 mile brawler where all smog and computer equipment is removed, and the car is running mainly on mechanical components rather than electronic. there are also certain laws regarding engine swaps that vary slightly from place to place (not that everyone follows them anyways) engine swaps can by no means be just cobbled together. it takes careful and methodical planning, very close attention to detail, an intimate knowledge of everything you will modify, remove, or install and the ramifications each part has. the guy i referred to above with the Alero is a perfect case-in-point. with very careful research he took the Alero, and was able to put the body on an S-10 frame, set the LS-1 350 back a few inches, modify the firewall, and hook up all the necessary computers in a very clean package. from 20 feet away, it looks almost like a stocker with the way he set the Mickey Thompson slicks in the rear wheel wells so neatly.
