Great Ebay rockcrawler

Wow! Now this thing is freaking sweet. The only thing that sucks is how the idiot mounted the gas tank in the back of the jeep. Well judge for yourself!

Re: Great Ebay rockcrawler

Looks like he relocated the tank into the rear for ground clearance; I've hit the skidplate on mine several times...he probably got an extra 6-8" of clearance.

cool Jeep!!

Re: Great Ebay rockcrawler

Very cool old skool coil overs there. I love it, but for $15k its pricey. I got an old '89 Mazda B2600i 4x4 ext cab manual I am pondering making it a crawler. Been thinking using the 4L Jeep Inline 6 with some dana axles off a dodge 1 ton. Also do some body work, and make the ext cab into a crew cab. They have these mazda's in crew cab from the 80's but over-seas. It would be a great hobby to start to learn to weld, and fabricate my own truck. I just pulled the old 2.6L inline 4 cyl, cylinder head, turns out I got 2 cracks. LOL, just pulling the engine out. I hate how these imports are all crammed and tight.

Are diesels a good idea for an offroad rig? I could get my hands on a Dodge diesel for real cheap.

Re: Great Ebay rockcrawler

Diesels + off road =

Lots of low end torque, like really low end, 8-900 rpm. Check out the torque curve here:

Looks like at least 300 lb-ft at just under 900 rpm, which is more than a gas I-6 engine at max power.

Cool

They got all the power in the workld, but they weigh a ton. Makes it tough to keep balanced while rock crawling.

Good point, need some ballast @ the rear end to keep from going over..... Guess you can solve the power issue with enough gears.

Re: Great Ebay rockcrawler

I have never done any rock crawling, I find it more fun abusing my rigs in the mud and ruts.
