2003 Passat wagon fuel pump

2003 Passat wagon, fuel pump failure. what is the trick to getting the $%^^pump put of the tank ??

Are you so sure its the pump? Did you bother to check the relay, and that there is current to it? You have to pull the rear seat, and drop the tank, you'll find its really easy. -cristoffer vonrichtoven

Actually the pump is under the rear mat. And you dont have to drop the tank. There is a special tool to remove the top plate after you remove the lines. there is also a special tool to remove the fuel pump assembly. You stick it in the top and it goes arround the pump assembly and then you spin it and it comes right out. THe pump assembly and top part all come as one assembly. The level sensor will need to be transferred (dont bend it unless you like your fuel guage only going to 3/4 tank)
