Cranks but dont start, Most times only clicks

Well i know its obviously a problem of not getting enough gas. Im just not sure what to check for. I used some starting fluid, and it ony runs and burns off what i spray into the carb and just dies...Also sometimes when i try to start it, it wont even crank, it just clicks...brand new battery also.

also before this problem, the car would start sometimes and not start at all...it would start when it feels like it?

There is a battery ground under the coil packs that you should probably pull and clean, I've known this ground to cause a number of electrical issues. Also double check your battery connections, the starter uses a lot of power and even the slightest play in the cables will cause starting issues. If you grab the battery cables about 1-2" from the connections and pull you should not be able to move them with even mild force.

When you turn the key to 'RUN' (forward but not started) you should hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds. Some are quiet so you may need to unscrew the fuel cap and have a buddy put his ear to it. If you hear nothing start looking at fuses and relays.

If you hear the pump but it still won't start you should check for pressure at the schrader valve. A pressure gauge is only about $45 and it's a handy tool to have anyway. The procedure is easy enough for anyone to do and it will narrow the problem down a lot.

Good luck, hope it goes well.
