I would say stay away from meesing with your car especially if live in a state that does emission testings for your inspections.....Cause the golden rule is that your not supposed to touch your cat (unless faulty) until your car has 60K miles on it.....

Ever hear of catBACK exhaust? Or 100% emissions legal aftermarket exhaust systems? Greddy?
Dude he didn't ask you if he should keep his exhaust on or not, or what you think is right or wrong, he asked what the gains/losses are from it.

To answer the question, you do lose a little bit of torque off the line. I would recommend getting it, but don't get too big of piping, I got 2 1/4 on my corolla before, and I would lose to Si's off the start and have to climb my way back. You do lose a little bit of throttle response in mid range rpm though, but I wouldn't worry about that too much, because as I've heard, in SE-R's and Spec V's, you have to drop the clutch at about 4k rpm off the line to get those 7 second 0-60 times.

Greddy doesn't have an exhaust system YET. I would recommend waiting for Greddy or Nismo, when I get my Spec V I'm gonna put nothing but Nismo or the #1 aftermarket parts supplier.

If you really want exhaust, just get a universal muffler, something like the Billet N1 style muffler, those will look good on the Spec V and then get a muffler shop to put mandrel bent piping 2 1/4" piping from behind the catalytic converter all the way to the muffler, then booya, you have aftermarket catback exhaust, WITHOUT tampering with the catalytic converter.
