Blower Speeds

Well I am going to be busy this weekend. I have to replace my Wife's water pump and fix my Door ajar light as it is my rear hatch that is causing the problem and I am still intent on sorting out the door ajar system.

Anyway when that is all done I will not have anything to do so I have a new ponderable.

As far as I am aware there are 4 or 5 blower speeds on the Windstar (ignoing the back controls). I had my fan on top speed and when I changed my selector to max AC the speed of the blower increased. Does this make sense? As far as I know when the selector is in Max AC it simply shuts off the outside air intake and recirculates the inside air to enable the cooling of air that is cooler than the outside 90 degree air in the peak of summer. I also do not know what the damper does but it seems to flow from a lot of places.

Should the blower speed increase? Could it be that my cabin air filter is clogged (I have never changed it but I do blow it out with my shop vac) ? and thus I am putting a strain on the blower?

Any ideas. I will simply throw out the filter if that is the problem

Re: Blower Speeds

Not only is the filter possibly an issue (by the way, I just bought a Purolator cabin filter from Advance ... think it was seven or eight bucks), think about the air paths. In one case (MAX) its out into the cabin and right back into the fan inlet. In all others, the fan is trying to "inflate" the cabin with outside air. Will the fan speed up if a door is opened? Dunno. Just thinking outloud. ... probably way off-base. Ain't it great to anonomous!

My Winnie has exhibited this fan speed phenomenon new from the dealer's lot.

Re: Blower Speeds

Thanks 12Ounce......actually the fan trying to blow air into a pressurized cabin makes a whole lot of sense.

FWIW - the blower on my 2000 has behaved the exact same as yours since it was new from the dealer.
