1990 Inter lock
I just bought a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder. Its an XE v6. There is a button inside and it says Inter Lock. What does it do? Is if for 4x4?

1990 Interlock
"The engine cannot be started unles the clutch is fully depressed. However, 4wheel drive models are equipped with an Interlock Cancel Switch that allows for starting the engine without depressing the clutch pedal. This feature helps you restart the engine if it stops under difficult off-road circumstances (for example, the engine stops on a steep hill and a slight movement forard or backward might be dangerous)."
That is direct from my 1990 Pathfinder owners manual. You simply apply the brake, click the interlock switch to the left and you can start your Pathfinder without depressing the clutch. I haven't had use for it yet but who knows, I might soon as I do a LOT of offroading. |

It's also useful when trying to troubleshoot a starting problem if the clutch switch isn't getting engaged when you push in the pedal. If the vehicle starts by using the interlock, there's a good chance the clutch switch is defective or is not getting fully depressed by the pedal.
Just for future reference.
