Question about fuel gauge and economy...

Bought my 1996 cavalier (manual) 5 days ago. Running fine and was inspected with no major problems found.

Started the car this morning and it stalled. I was like, oh no, not another stalling cavalier! I ignite again and give it some gas for 30 seconds to avoid another stall and then it goes just fine.

Now after work, car started to stall again and the gas pedal wasn't responding. Looked like an empty fuel tank Hopefully, car stopped right in front of a gas station. Filled the tank and now running fine.

I guess my little stall problem this morning was related to lack of gas maybe. I work at 5 km of my house.

But hey, I'll be more carefull about gas but I really thought I had some left. The gas indicator in the dash was near Empty but never got close of touching E (on my first car, Corolla 1990, I could bring the needle under E and still have some lol). I had to put 48 liters of gas to fill the tank. Considering the 58 Liters tank was quite empty, I thought I could put more in it...

Every car's different I guess, what about your Cavalier?

And what is your fuel economy? I drove around 575 KM on a full tank with near 400 KM on the highway. I thought i could do more than that. What is your fuel economy on yours?

Thanks!

.fs.

Re: Question about fuel gauge and economy...

your fuel gauge should get on E before you are actually empty. Your fuel level sensor could be bad. I get about 23mpg on the highway and 19mpg city.
