Hey dont get mad at me for this but me and my friend are having a debate. my question is would a 70 boss mustang 429 beat a 69 yenko camaro 427 I think the hp is either 425 or 450 on the camaro. not sure on 1/4 time either.

Re: mustang camaro question

I'm going to have to say the 70 boss in 1/4 mile, if im correct I think that stock for the Boss was 3.91 to 1. And the Yenko was 4.11 to 1. The Boss had 429C.I./ 375 H.P. /450 LB-FT of TQ, and the Camaro had 427 C.I./370 H.P. /396 LB-FT of TQ. Taller gear would give the Camaro a hint better top speed, but the accelaration on the boss would give it the edge in 1/4 mile, but maybe not in the top speed margin. My two cents.

With the 3.91 and more hp would give the top speed to the BOSS. The Camaro would be quicker if it can hook. Considering the tires they used back then, both would just spin.

Its really not a fair question, because they are both very equal.

Re: mustang camaro question

Depends on too many things: Driver ability being a large one. Hence the reason car vs. car threads are short-lived before being locked.

Then again, this isn't exactly a shut-up-and-race situation, because where but possibly the Pure Stock Drags will you find a stock Yenko and a stock Boss '9?

One other thing to consider, though, was that the 427 in the Yenko was "rated" at under 400 HP but was reported to dyno over 500-550 HP, especially with a bit of timing play and a valve lash adjustment. The Boss '9 was no different, Ford reportedly "left it to the consumer" to unlock the potential of that beast, and underrated the motor.

Man, I grew up probably no more than 5 miles from Don Yenko Chevrolet.
I was just 7 or 8 or 9 during his heyday. There's probably a lot of folks around Washington Co., Pa., and the greater Pittsburgh area that had a Yenko and wish everyday they had kept it.

Re: mustang camaro question

Reminds me of a magazine I used to own where they compared a 70 Boss 429 to a 69 Camaro 302. The Boss took almost every catagory except turning (LOL). I never understood why they thought to compare those two.

The Boss and the Z-28 where common rivals of their day.

You were more likely to see a Boss or Mach1 than a Yenko or COPO.

Re: mustang camaro question

Somehow I would have thought a Boss302 and Z28 would have been closer rivals but I am just going by displacement,

I'm gonna give it to the Yenko. Those things ran a mid 11 in the 1/4 mile.

Which Roush though do you like? I personally am a huge fan of the 380R's. They are VERY sexy cars when they're black with the gold race stripes.
