Gas Mileage
I have a 93 LX with a 1.9L and I recently changed the fuel filter on it. When I filled up the needle goes past the F mark.. Before I changed the fuel filter between the time from the needle past the F mark, to right on the F mark, I get around 60 miles. Just recently I got 95miles during that time. Those 95miles were on highway, then when i got in to the city it wasnt acting all that great. I ended up getting 236.7 miles onn 7.8 gallons of gas. Which would be 30mpg. If i stayed on the highway would I see a greater increase in gas mileage?
Another thing. My cruise control wont work, i want to fix it. What do I do to go about fixing the problem? Thanks

Re: Gas Mileage
Honestly it is really hard to measure average gas mileage unless you are comparing complete tank to one another, as opposed to just the distance from Past F to F etc. In otehr words, do you normally get 30 mpg?
Yes, you will almost always get better gas mileage on the highway than around the. As far as cruise control not working, mine dosn't either, and its b/c the pressure bottle has a leak/broken at the valve. Take a look under the hood at this, on mine ('95) it is on the pass side just behind the coolant overflow/filler tank... its kinda a weird system, but switching it on/off relies on pressure in this bottle. |

nomatter what hghway is better tahn city, unless your doing 120 then not so much. but as far as the cruise, as stated the cruise is controlled by vaccum hoses which finding where the leak is could take a while...or you could just check the fuse for starters.

Re: Gas Mileage
Here's a weird one, with Diesel's (Yes Ford used to make a diesel Escort, and they were incredible cars) they have basicly the same mileage weather it's in the city or highway. Basically 50mpg
Downtown LA rush hour would probably make a big difference though |

put a new set of plug wires on as well as plugs, and an air filter. If you have any mechanical skills, take off the air box and cut a hole in the bottom of it(as well as remove the air silencer).
I did that and I got 34mpg thrashing my 91 1.9L/5speed car up and down the backroads of PA(hill country too to boot). As far as "highway" miles, I only have been back and forth from Lancaster PA to Washington DC and I still get 38mpg even sitting in traffic from time to time(rush hour). Not to shabby..that's why I love that little econocrapbox

Re: Gas Mileage
When I was young we filled our air boxxes with several 1/2" or bigger holes.
You can actually make it as big as possible, anywhere on the bottom that it won't be blocked. The several smaller holes will stop garbage from getting sucked up in there |
